What art opened your heart?

I found a quote from Albert Camus,

” An artist is always trying to recreate the art that first opened their heart.

The first major art influences on me were… Ken Reid’s cartoons. His dense panels and thick black lines stood out from all the other fluffy art that was in children’s comics in the 70’s. I think I’m still trying to reach that dense but clear level of art.

Letraset rub-down transfers were another big influence. I used to collect these and just stare at the empty painted scene with out rubbing down the figures. To me the scenes were these beautiful liminal spaces that offered so many possibilities.

And finally the Usborne Supernatural Guide Books. I love the accessibility and design of these illustrated stories tightly crammed on the page. They set my mind racing with thoughts of other worlds. What art opened your heart?
